Are RV Carports Worth it?

YES! Metal RV carports provide decades of worry-free protection and save you money in the long run.

An all steel RV carport can be a very practical, sturdy, and valuable cover for your recreational vehicle. Metal RV carports are worth it for many reasons...let's find out why.

Why a Metal RV Carport?

A metal RV carport from Georgia Portable Buildings has standard braces at every leg and center peak braces per engineer specifications.

How Much Does an RV Carport Cost?

You may also choose to have a quote sent to you via text or email.

The cost of a metal RV shelter or steel carport depends on several things including

  • Style
  • Size
  • Roof eave
  • Roof panel direction
  • Customizations
  • High wind and snow-load certification

Let's consider each of these RV cover factors one by one...

Style

There are two basic roof styles with meal RV carports, the rounded eave, and the boxed eave RV cover. Regular style RV shelters are the lowest price shelter. A boxed-in eave costs a little more and is basically for looks.

Prices start with the regular style RV shelters; they are the most economical choice for RV storage.

Regular style

The regular style RV shelter

  • Is cost-effective
  • Provides adequate coverage
  • Allows for optional customization like doors or windows
  • Offers a smooth transition into any side panels that you may choose to add to your metal carport shelter.
Box eave style

The boxed eave A frame roof style

  • Boxed eave RV shelters provide great looks that match most any home today
  • Allows for optional customization like trim packages and color combinations, doors and windows too
  • Provides coverage that extends as an eave, similar to your home (boxed-eave)
  • A boxier and more crisp look than rounded
  • Costs more than the regular style
  • Looks great with horizontal roof panels

Roof

Within the category of style, there is the choice in which way the roof panels go on an RV metal building. You can choose the standard horizontal roof panels or you can choose to have a vertical roof.

Horizontal

A horizontal roof system can be chosen as a style regardless of whether you order a regular rounded eave or a boxed eave design. Horizontal metal roof systems are where the panels run side to side instead of up and down or vertical.

Vertical

Go vertical with vertical roof RV shelters!

A vertical roof system can also be chosen with either eave style eave (rounded or boxed) and is the best roof that can be chosen.

The vertical roof style roof is far superior because it directs any falling leaves, debris, or dirt off the roof, by design, and onto the ground.

Metal RV covers with a vertical roof style also help keep snow or water accumulation on the roof itself, because of the panels running vertically.

A vertical roof also offers a sturdy hat channel at the top, connecting the roof panels that extends the entire length to add more structure to the design.

Vertical roof RV shelters are a lot less work for you as the customer because there isn't a need to do any maintenance and they hold up really well over time.

The vertical roof is stronger, stays cleaner, has the overlapping hat channel, and is, therefore, less maintenance over time.

Vertical roof metal RV shelters provide the best coverage with the least amount of work for you

What's the Difference Between Leg Height and Peak Height?

There is a difference between leg height and peak height on an RV carport. The leg height is the actual height of the metal leg used as the support of the RV carport.

The peak height is the total height at the tallest part of the structure, in the center at the very top where the roof panels meet.

Notice the illustration above, showing one of our boxed eave metal carports demonstrating this difference.

Size

Size is a big determining factor in the price of RV shelters or metal buildings.

The larger the motor home, Class C RV, or travel trailer, the larger and roomier the metal RV shelter should be. You need adequate space when it comes to storage shelters.

The average recreational vehicle is taller than most any type of vehicle, so this means the shelter will cost a bit more than a regular carport would.

There should be plenty of space around your RV for the AC unit on top, slide-outs, gear, and a safe area to move around inside, outside, and underneath a metal RV carport.

Adequate Airflow with Metal RV Carports

Metal RV shelters suit you best when there is adequate room underneath to store your items, access the entire vehicle, and have room to deploy slide-outs as well.

Prevent mildew with proper airflow in the best all steel shelter

This way, your travel trailer or RV always has the chance to get proper airflow instead of being restricted under those tight and fitted fabric RV covers.

Certification

If you live in an area such as a coastal state, East or West, then you may want to look into certified RV covers or metal carports. Engineer-certified RV covers are best for extreme wind and heavy snow loads.

RV garages purchased in the Northern part of the United States, where there can be severe weather including ice and snow may be best if they are certified.

Steel frames and preferred roof system features make metal buildings shine!

How much does it cost to build a roof over a camper?

If you already have a camper or recreational vehicle, chances are you would like to get it out of the weather and protected. Having a roof covering over your motor home is a great way to start protecting it both inside and out. A metal RV carport is a great place to start. What are your choices?

Do I want a temporary cover, a fabric RV shelter roof canopy, or a completely enclosed garage?

Several Choices

You have choices when it comes to storage shelters, either fabric covers or enclosed storage with a strong metal roof system. RV covers come in many shapes and sizes but the best structure is a solid one that protects from any type of weather.

You can have a simple RV shelter or you can add things to it so it becomes your own. RV garages are a great option for protection, not just a roof over a camper

An RV carport with side panels and ends enclosed, plus any additional options you want, allows you to be able to securely lock the doors and keep your valuables safe but accessible.
